About the Event

Hanging art can feel daunting. What looks good where? How high do I hang? Have I got the right tools? Art & People are back with Collins & Green Art for a day course in how to hang art at home. We will demystify the whole process, making it fun and easy. The workshop is open to collectors and trade alike, with any level of experience.

What to expect

- The morning will be dedicated to theory and inspiration. We begin with a tour of art dealer Julia Collins’ home - full of exciting examples of how to live at home with art. Then Art & People founder, Claudia Kennaugh, will walk you through the fundamentals of picture hanging: identifying your style, learning core arrangements, considering the room for practicalities and mood, refreshing your collection and how to address big blank walls.

- We will then break for a delicious, light lunch when you can share more about your individual projects to receive advice and ideas.

- In the afternoon we will get practical. You’ll watch a demonstration on how to hang a picture in four steps - complete with DIY advice and tricks of the trade. To bring it all together, we will close with an interactive session on designing and hanging a gallery wall, where you can get involved and have a go!

- Includes coffees, teas and lunch.

' I loved the course, it was incredibly inspiring!' Fleur @sevenoaksbookshop

' Brilliant picture hanging masterclass from @artandppl hosted by @collinsandgreenart in her fabulous space hung so beautifully from top to bottom with her collection of art. We learnt so much about how to hang pictures well and create gallery walls - top tips, rules, pitfalls - it was all revealed and discussed over good coffee with likeminded folk. Very useful for knowledge sharing with clients for whom art plays an important part of their home...we can create art, with art! Oh, and it doesn't have to cost the earth. Thank you for an inspiring morning - Charlotte @chellointeriordesign

' I did another gallery wall for a client and it worked out really well! Put it all into practice and it worked!' - Charlotte @chellointeriordesign

' A lovely morning spent understanding the inner points of picture hanging with a lovely group' - Amanda @amandataylordesign

Claudia Kennaugh

Claudia Kennaugh is the founder of Art & People, a Bristol-based art advisory service offering guidance to artists and collectors. Launched in 2019 in response to 15 years working in the arts as a musician and performing artist, then gallery partner and art advisor at Hollywood Road Gallery, London. Claudia has been a judge on the Jackson’s Painting Prize and is an artist mentor on the BBC One TV programme Make it at Market Series II. Over her years co-running the Hollywood Road Gallery, London – established by her family in 1980 – she curated countless fairs and exhibitions with hand-sourced artworks from the UK, Europe & South America. During this time, she nurtured the careers of many artists and helped the gallery collectors to find, frame and hang art in their homes. Today, Art & People supports the professional development of early-mid career artists with 121 coaching, workshops and tutorials. Art & People hosts an annual charity exhibition, Precious Postcards. The open call collection is an opportunity for largely unrepresented artists to sell their works to collectors and showcase to galleries, whilst raising funds for FoodCycle.

Julia Collins

Art, viewing, buying, selling and collecting, kept me sane during my 15 years in finance. Eventually I left that world to do a Masters in History of Art which I finished just before having my two children. When they went off to University in lockdown I  returned to my second passion…art. Art has given me so much pleasure over the years and every wall in my house is covered in pictures, prints, my children’s school art, framed magazine pages, postcards , pictures by friends, and anything which takes my eye. I now work with lots of visitors to the studio in West London, and online, through Instagram and my website, . I am just as happy helping interior designers with big projects, as I am helping individuals with a one-off piece, or their own special project.
